2.2.7. Centre Mallorca

THE CENTRE

Es Pla is the largest area on the island and this vast and fertile central plain is Mallorca’s last frontier. Agricultural land for the most part, dotted with small dusty villages and miles of vineyards, almond and olive groves, and the occasional run down finca with a tired palm tree. Fincas and villas in the middle of the countryside here offer real bargain opportunities and the chance to experience Mallorca from a distance, with peace and tranquillity. This is where to look if you want a haven, and plan to refurbish.

The central plain is also home to Mallorca's 3 wine regions, Pla i Llevant on the eastern side is Mallorca's oldest wine growing area, Binissalem, north east of Palma and the Tramuntana which encompases the vineyards in western foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains.

The island is small and the coast is never more than a 40 minute drive away, so it may feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, far from the busy holiday resorts but the next village in just over the hills and the coast, buslting with life, a few miles down the road.
