2.2.5. West Mallorca

THE WEST OF MALLORCA

The Serra de Tramuntana area from Port Andratx to Pollensa is a magnificent mountainous coastline speckled with hilltop villages perched on the edge of the sea. This is the playground of poets and artists, and more recently, cyclists and hikers, with picturesque towns of the likes of Soller, Deiá and Valldemossa, frozen in time.

Cooler temperatures in the summer make the western Tramuntana a wonderful escape in the heat, but damp and cold in the winter, as George Sand discovered and immortalised in her book "A Winter in Mallorca".

Access to the west of Mallorca is tricky as the entire area is taken up by a protected natural reserve and mountain range. The Soller tunnel has improved road access however and the marinas at Port Andratx, Deià and Soller provide sea access.
