2.2.3. North East Mallorca
THE NORTH EAST OF MALLORCA
From Cala Ratjada to Porto Cristo, the north east of Mallorca is possibly Mallorca's most peaceful setting. The area has a spectacular coastline with small coves and long virgin beache and is home to the Llevant natural park and the Serra de Llevant Mountains, not as mighty as the Tramuntana Mountains but are nevertheless quite wild and unspoiled. This is a popular bird watching destination. The main towns of the north east are Artá and Capdepera, charming hill towns, and the nearby resorts of Colonia San Pere and Cala Ratjada. It is the least accessible part of the island as it isn't served by any of the major road networks and as such has remained surprisingly unspoiled in parts, while very popular in others. It is worth exploring.
