THE NORTH OF MALLORCA

The north of the island runs from Pollensa and Formentor, at the edge of the Tramuntana Mountains in the north to Cala Ratjada half way down the north-western coast, englobing Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa, Alcudia and Playa de Muro.

This is a highly sought after area due to its unique location in the foothills, near the coast and though effectively on the opposite side of the island, easily accessible from Palma city and the airport. An airport run from Palma de Mallorca airport to Pollensa will take on average 45 minutes door to door. It also enjoys a slightly milder climate than the rest of the island due to the barrier effect of the Tramuntana Mountains and attracts a cosmopolitan crowd.

Out of season the area has become especially popular with bird watchers and cyclists who appreciate the natural reserves of the majestic Tramuntana Mountains and the wetlands around Alcudia and head for the island in the cooler seasons, making this area fairly popular all year round.

The marina in Puerto Pollensa attracts the yachting world, helping retain the old world charm of the fishing village it once was, while golf courses in Pollensa and Alcanada provide a winter wonderland for an international set of golfers and winter visitors.
