PALMA DE MALLORCA
Palma de Mallorca is a charming city, capital to both the island and the Balearic Autonomous Community. With 500,000 inhabitants, Palma is home to over half the island’s population and the eighth largest city in Spain. It has a major international airport, commercial port and two high end marinas, the Real Club Náutico and Club de Mar.
Its ancient quarter behind the Palma Cathedral pays homage to the island’s colourful past, with the Almudaina Palace, Arab baths and Calatrava district. Paseo del Borne and Jaume III make up the city’s luxury shopping, while Santa Catalina is an up and coming old fishermen's area attracting a cosmopolitan crowd, a nightlife centre with chic cafes and restaurants around the old covered market. Portixol and Ciutat Jardi along the coast act as the city’s own private beach area, hugely popular with sun bathers and water sports enthusiasts by day and offer funky bars and restaurants by night.
